AMURI COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING HELD | Those present at the last monthly j meeting of the Amuri County Council, held recently, were Crs. G. O. Rutherford (chairman), M. Bethell, J. Manson, R. le Clerc Latter, R. Mercer, RL. Jameson, H. R. Davison, J. J. Gallagher, and J. J. Duncan. It was decided to go on with the re-erection of the bridge giving access to Waiau j cemetery. Accounts amounting to £ISOO 0s 6d were parsed ior payment. Plans were received from the Lands and Survey Department showing the railway boundary at the Waiau ! bridge. The engineer reported that I according to the plan there was suili- ! cient land available to make a deviation to give better access to the bridge. It was resolved that the improvements | to the approach of the bridge be carried out. Mr R. Bethell wrote drawing the l council's attention to the difficulty of I driving cattle across the School creek bridge, and suggested that the road be; < opened above or below the bridge to permit stock to be driven across Ihe creek. The matter was left in the hands of the Pahau riding members to inspect and report on the suggestion. It was decided to make application for the declaration of the townships in the county as closely populated areas, and thereby have motor vehicles restricted to a speed of 30 miles an hour. It was decided to serve notices to all ratepayers who have gorse or broom growing on their road frontages, and enclose a covering letter to state that if the work is not done in the stipulavcd time the work will be done by the council and charged to the ratepayers concerned. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING KAIKOUUA CLUB The Kaikoura Miniature Rifle Club held its first shoot for the club championship in conjunction with the weekly button and trophy shoot. Mrs T. Heardon and K. Reardon were the winners of the senior buttons. The junior buttons were won by Miss Leigh and J. A. Johnston, Johnston also winning the trophy. The following were the best scores: — Women—Mrs T. Moore 948, B. Maw 943. CULVERDEN LADIES' CLUB The Culverden Ladles* Club has now concluded its season. At a post-match shot against the Celtic Ladies' Club, Christchurch, the local team won. The aggregate winners were: Miss Hamilton (Mr Rivers's trophy) 1095, Mrs H. Hammond (Mr Drage's trophy) 1094, Miss Mockett (Mrs Hammond's trophy) 1089, Miss J. Hoban (Mrs Mcpherson's trophy) 1070. Mrs Bethell's trophy was \.on by Miss Loffhagen. Mrs GUdsell's cup was won by Miss Loffhagen, who also won the button. Mr Hamilton's trophy was won by Mrs Loffhagen; Mrs Woodward's trophy, Mies B. Hodgins; Mr D. Davison's trophy, Mrs Croft; Mr Rogers's trophy, Mrs H. Hammond; Miss M. FAREWELL AFTERNOON AT MEDBURY A farewell afternoon was tendered recently in the Medbury Public Hall, to Mrs R. Garden, teacher of the Sunday School, who is leaving the district. Brooker was the accompanist for the afternoon. On behalf of the teachers and children of the district. Mr H. H. Brooker presented Mrs R. Garden with a book and crystal vase and gifts for Myra Garden and Robert Garden. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies. Personal Items Mr and Mrs D. C. Thomas and family (Feilding). who have been spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs H. Brooker, "Ediedale," Medbury, have left recently for Christchurch. Mr Noel Brooker (Medbury) left recently for Ashburton. Mr Jack Topp (Kaiapoi) is spending a holiday with his aunt and uncle, Mr and Mrs George Topp, Medbury. SPRING FAIR AT CUBT A successful spring fair, organised by members of St. David's Presbyterian Church, was held in the Public Hall, when about £35 was realised. The Rev. A. D. Kirkland introduced the Rev. J. Watson (Rangiora), who declared the fair open and wished them every &UCCCS3 The following were stall-holders:— Cake stall: Mesdames T. Jackson, R. Thompson, and R. W.
