HEAVY GALE IN AUSTRALIA
♦ DROVER KILLED BY FALLING TREE SYDNEY, September 11. During yesterday's gale a drover was crushed by a falling tree on the north coast and killed. People in houses were endangered when the roofs were torn off and widespread damage was done. Five people were marooned on Seal Rocks when a yacht was driven aground and wrecked. They are living with the lighthouse-keeper until it is possible to take them to the mainland. Snow fell on the Blue Mountains. The cold snap, following warm days, resulted in serious losses of sheep. A number of small craft was wrecked on Sydney Harbour, the shores of which are littered with timber from capsized lighters.
