JAPAN REDUCING WOOL BUYING?
AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. PURCHASES MOVE REPORTED IN TOKYO TOKYO, September 9. The newspaper "Asahi Shimbun" states that the Government is seeking to cut down its purchases of Australian wool under the trade agreement to 500,000 bales, in addition to discontinuing purchases from New Zealand, the Argentine, Chile, and South Africa. MARKETS IN THE ARGENTINE :—« GERMAN AND ITALIAN SUBSIDIES THREAT TO BRITISH AND U.S. TRADE LONDON, September 9. Italian and German subsidies for overseas commerce are seriously menacing British and American trade in the Argentine, declares the Anglo-Argentine Bureau in a communique. The communique points out that Germany is securing an increasing share of the Latin-American market by underselling British goods, and Italian woollens are challenging British. German firms are also obtaining important public works contracts. German light car sales in the Argentine exceeded British in 1936 for the first time. KING AND QUEEN AT BRAEMAR ♦ ■ TREMENDOUS ENTHUSIASM OF RECORD CROWD (britibh official -wibeless.) RUGBY, September 9. The chief event of the Deeside season, the Braemar Highland Gathering, opened to-day in the presence of the King and Queen. Tremendous enthusiasm was displayed by a record crowd as the King and Queen drove on to the ground in a carriage drawn by greys and pre-1 ceded by outriders. A guard of honour was formed by 150 pipers. WEDDING OF DANISH PRINCESS ♦ COPENHAGEN, September 9. In the presence of many royalties Princess Fedora, daughter of Prince Harold, a brother of King Christian of Denmark, was married to Prince Christian of Schaumburg Lippe in the chapel of Fredensborg Castle, where 400 brilliantly lit rooms were crowded with guests. King Christian entertained 150 guests at a wedding dinner.
