WEDDINGS

BEAUCHAMP—COSTER The wedding was celebrated recently at Anakiwa Homestead. Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough, of Joy Annette, elder daughter of the late Mr Lewis Coster, and Mrs Coster, Canterbury, to Richard Stanley, son of Mr and Mrs S. Beauchamp, Marlborough. The bride, a great-grand-daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Craddock Beauchamp, is the first member of the fourth generation to be married at Anakiwa, all her aunts and greataunts having been married at the family homestead. Many of the guests at the wedding had been present at all the Anakiwa weddings. This ceremony took place in the lounge, which had been beautifully decorated with large bowls of arum lilies and camellias. The bride is a greatniece of Mr Edward Coster, at one time manager of the Bank of New Zealand in Christchurch, and a great-great-niece of the Rev. R. Broughton, a former headmaster of Christ's College. The bridegroom is a nephew of Sir Harold Beauchamp (Wellington). The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr Lewis Coster, wore a frock of white lace. Satin clematis blossoms were appliqued on the train and on the long veil which was arranged to form a halo above a wreath of orange blossom and lilies-of-the-valley. Her bouquet was of lilies of the valley and Christmas roses. She wore also a necklace which had been worn -by brides of the Beauchamp family for many generations. A slightly-trained frock of blue organdie was worn by Miss Elizabeth Coster, who attended her sister as bridesmaid. Her flowers were pink Iceland poppies and hyacinths. Three flower girls, Misses Patty Foster, Jennifer Foster, and Judith Beauchamp, cousins of the bride, wore pink sprigged muslin frocks and blue hair bands, and carried posies of yellow primroses and blue hyacinths. Mr J. Graham (Canterbury) was best man. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Neil Chambers, vicar of the Sounds parish. After the reception. Mr and Mrs Richard Beauchamp left by car for their wedding tour. The bride was wearing a rust-coloured suit with a high fur collar, and a hat and eye-veil to tone. She carried a brown threequarter length astrakhan coat. SINCLAIR—MURPHY The wedding of Ellen Josephine, youngest daughter of Mrs Murphy and the late Mr J. P. Murphy (Norton Reserve, Waimate), to Douglas Gordon, second son of Mrs Sinclair, and the late Mr J. Sinclair (Oamaru), was celebrated recently at St. Patrick's Church. Waimate, by the Rev. Father J. Herbert. Mrs Edgar Mu>phy was the organist. The bride, who was given away by her brother, wore a slightly trained frock of white embossed velvet, the square neckline being finished with a spray of orange blossom. Her embroidered veil, worn off the face, was arranged from a halo of orange blossom, and her armlet was of arum lilies. I Miss Mary Ryder, who attended as ! bridesmaid, wore a frock of Princess I Royal blue satin beaute, made on lines similar to the bride's frock, with | flowers at the square neckline. She wore a halo hat of blue and silver, and she carried a bouquet of pink sweet peas, freesias, and abutilons. Mr Cedric Sinclair attended his brother as best man. A reception was held at the Savoy tea-rooms. When Mr and Mrs Sinclair left for their wedding tour, the bride was wearing a suit of hunter's green wool georgette, and accessories to tone. METHVEN GOLF CLUB ANNUAL BALL The annual ball of the Methven Golf Club was held in Messrs Dalgety and Company's large grain store, which that firm had kindly made available for the occasion. This entertainment was the most outstanding of its kind ever held in the district. A large committee, under the guidance of "Dr. D. G. Wallace (president) and with Mr A. R. Gourley as secretary, had spared no effort to make the ball the success it undoubtedly was. The floor had been specially prepared and was in splendid condition for dancing. The decorations were in a red and blue colour scheme, and hundreds of coloured lights and masses of evergreens added to the effective background. Bowls of spring flowers decorated the supper tables. Booker, assisted by Miss Joyce Booker, who will be one of the bridesmaids. A "pantry" gift party was given by Miss MacKenzie, assisted by Miss Molly Hobbs, the second bridesmaid, and Mrs H. Bayliss gave a "variety" party, and Mrs A. Small honoured Miss Doell at a party to which her friends brought gifts of "something in a tin."
