WORK AMONG HOSPITAL PATIENTS MEETING OF COMMITTEE At a meeting of the committee of the Hospital Lady • Visitors' Association, held at the 'hospital, Mrs E. G. Hogg (president) moved a motion of sympathy to the relatives of Mrs Deans. Mrs Deans had been one of the association's best friends for more than 30 years, and her kind and generous interest in the association will be greatly missed. , It was reported that during August 11 patients had been granted one week, and five patients two weeks, at the Convalescent Home. Two children had been granted two weeks each at the Cholmondeley Home, and garments had been given to needy patients. Miss Lane, reporting on the occupational work of patients, said that 15 patients were engaged in this work, and in the new ward of 27 children as many as possible were supplied with work. _ Books and magazines had been gratefully received for the library from Mrs T. F. Gibson, Mrs L. A. Woodward. Mrs Webb, Mrs E. Hanmer and Mrs L. Gardiner. Accounts amounting to £3O were passed for payment. The meeting was attended by Mesdames E. G. Hogg, S. H. Stewart, R. Beals. P. Wynn-WilHams, J. E. Fleming, C. J. Ward. Misses Widdowson, Cardale, and L. Bowen. PLAYBOX CLUB VARIED PROGRAMME The Play-Box Club held the second of its monthly evening socials at the Play-Box Studio in Tuam street, about 80 members and friends being present. Miss Olive Tibbs was hostess, and Mr Eric Bates was in the chair. Items were given as follows:—Pianoforte solos, Misses Betty Hall, Woods, and Patricia Foster; songs. Misses Joyce O'Malley, Marjorie CarwellCooke, Rae Foster, Marjorie Crouch, Messrs Graham Clothier, Lawrance Mcllroy, and Trevor Ritchie; humorous monologues, Misses Edna Biri, Netting, Judith Parsons, and Mr F. Argyle. Mrs Jacomb and Messrs Thompson, Stewart, Lake, Smith, and Clothier presented a humorous sketch. The programme concluded with supper and dancing. ENGAGEMENT NOTICES The engagement ii announced of Thomas Wilfred, elder son of Mr and Mrs H. Shirley, of Edenbridge street, Sprevdon. antfi RiJth Allison elder daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Ballantyne, of Mornington, Dunedin. The engagement is announced of Campbell, son of Mr and Mrs J. Mcllroy, Tainui street, Somerfleld, and Elfreda Barbara, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. A, Thiele, Chester street, Christchurch.
