FRIDAY (Before Mr E. C. Lewey, S.M.) i UNREGISTERED FIREARM j On a charge of having in his pos- ! session an unregistered firearm, Russell Frederick Organ (Dr. A. L. Haslam) was convicted and discharged. An order was made for the firearm to be confiscated. TRAFFIC OFFENCES The following were prosecuted for breaches of the traffic regulations, Sub-Inspector D. A. Incorrect parking: Llewellyn Ernest Owen, 20s; Eric McDonald Todd, 10s; David Charles Shaw (voluntary appearance), 10s. Failing to give way: Herbert William Speak, costs only. Cutting in: Tesla Leone Uren, £2. Negligent driving: Tesla Leone Uren. £5. CLAIM FOR PENALTY (Before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.) A penalty of £lO for an alleged breach of the New Zealand licensed hotel employees' agreement was claimed by the Inspector of Awards (Mr H. A. Gatward) from Hugh Steel, licensee of the Star and Garter Hotel (Mr R. A. Young). The informant claimed that Steel employed Caroline Voyce as a cook and paid her the wage of u general under the agreement. The defendant claimed that Voyce was employed as a general. In giving judgment for the informant for £1 and costs, the Magistrate j remarked that a breach of the agreement had occurred from time to time, but it was not a continuing one. He did not think there was any deliberate attempt to evade the terms of the agreement.
