TECHNICAL COLLEGE BOARD
ANNUAL MEETING HELD "The most pleasing feature about the attendances at the college is the steady growth they have shown from year to year," said the principal, Dr. D. E. Hansen, commenting on the report of attendances presented to tne "annual meeting of the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors last evening. Dr. Hansen said the attendances had increased by about 90 every year for the last 17 years. The roll number this year would have been larger had the college opened at "the usual date, he said. On the suggestion of the chairman (Mr T. W. West) several alterations were made to the various committees appointed for the coming year. Mr West said that some of the members knew very little of the work done by other members in different committees. Information stating that permission had been granted for the New Zealand Technical Education Conference to be held, commencing on September 22, and that reasonable travelling allowances .would be made to members wishing to take part, was' received. Two grants were received. The Waimairi County Council gave £2O, and the Printing Trades Union gave £"J 2s. A letter from the Education Department stated that the department could not give permission for chess to be taught as a subject in the college. Arrangements for further accommodation at the college will be completed when the school is inspected later in the year.
