CONCERT
"PRESS SHIP"
LARGE AUDIENCE AT PAPANUI HALL There was not a vacant seat in the Memorial Ha!l, Papanui, last evening, when a concert programme was presented by Mrs A. Pahi for "The Press Ship" Carefree' Club. In fact, so pooular was the entertainment that additional chairs had to be found, and ' even then it was impossible to seat ( all thore who desired to be present. The concert was staged in aid of { "Piess Ship" Christmas Mission funds, and the net result should represent many Christmas puddings and gifts for needy families this Christmas. Mrs Pahi and the Carefree Club members are to be congratulated upon the sue-i cess of their efforts. The first half of the programme was given bv the Pipiwhaurauroa concert party from Tuahiwi, under the leader- ' ship of Mr Hoana Pitami and included poi <iances, hakas, action songs, and choruses. Songs were given by Mrs Wei Rewai and Mr Charles Barrett, and two exceedingly clever little dancers, Billy and Biddy Pahi. were vociferously encored.
Hay's Drama Circle, under the direction of Mr John Turkington, was responsible for the greater part of the entertainment .in the second half of the programme. Two songs were given by Miss Beryl Rose, and the plsy, "The Bloaters," was received with the enthusiastic applause it deserved. There was no doubt, either, Of the popularity of Miss Doreen Herbert's pupils, who contributed a military ballet and a waltz tap dance and an operatic solo. Dances were also given by Olga arid Virginia Flint, whose work in this direction is rapidly gaining wide approval. Mrs Pahi and the Carefree Club members, with Marjorie Winter their leader, wish to thank the many friends who helped them with the concert and the dance and supper which followed These include Mrs H. R. Smith, who played for the singing and the dancing; Mrs W. Maher, Mr and Mrs K. Winter, Mr J. Turkington, Miss Grace Peterborough, Mr A. Pahi, Miss Doreen Herbert, and the members of the Pipiwhauraurftt concert party.
