STATE PURCHASE OF HOTEL

CONSOLIDATING GOVERNMENT PROPERTY (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELKQBAM.) WELLINGTON, September 10. Arrangements have been completed for the purchase of Hotel Arcadia, Wellington, by the Government. The purchasing department is the State Fire Insurance, and the vendor, the present owner of the property, is a Temuka resident. The date of transfer of the hotel remains indefinite. The Arcadia is a well-known building at the junction of Stout street and Lambton quay, and stands on a triangular block of land with a frontage of 68 feet and a depth of 120 feet. It has been made quite clear that the acquisition of the Hotel Arcadia does not mean its end as a place of lodging. The department has secured the freehold as a step towards the ultimate development of the block to consolidate Government property in the valuable mid-city area. There is at present no intention of interfering with the hotel building.
