COLOMBO STREET RAILWAY CROSSING
to ran EDITOI OF THB PUSS.
Sir, —As there seems to be some dissatisfaction and apprehension of danger in the construction of an overhead traffic bridge at Colombo street railway crossing, may I make so bold as to offer some suggestions which I think may be worthy of consideration. I am not acquainted with the difference in cost of the haulage of trams on the climb and on the leveL If the latter should show a difference in its favour would it not be as well to make a deviation, connect with the uresent lay-out on the avenue, and go down Durham street and along CarIvle street, connecting with the present track there. Then, instead of erecting a new overhead bridge at Madras street,-that bridge should be placed - opposite Manchester street, which would then carry the foot traffic of both Colombo and Madras streets. Colombo street crossing cpuld then be closed, and the object of the traffic authorities would be accomplished, the road traffic being diverted from Colombo street to Durham street. It might also help a little if Carlyle and Hazeldean streets were made one-, way streets.—Yours, etc., .„„„ A SYDENHAMITE. September 10. 1937
