WIMBLEDON TENNIS

MISS ROUND IN FINAL

POLISH PLAYER BEATS U.S CHAMPION

(CNTTED PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (Received July 2,2 p.m.) LONDON, July 1. In the women's singles semi-final at the Wimbledon lawn tennis championships to-day the supreme steadiness and forceful driving of Mile. J. Jedrzejowska (Poland) eclipsed the versatility of Miss A. Marble (United States), which, however, was marred by erratic periods. Miss D. E. Round (England), the title-holder in 1934, easily defeated Mme. R. Mathieu (France). She made only two errors in the second set. in which she lost only five points. Bromwich and Sproule (Australia) were unable to counter the vigorous game of Budge and Mako ("United States) in the men's doubles, but although the Australians were outmatched by more experienced and versatile opponents they fought out every ttroke. Von Cramm and Henkel (Germany) entered the semi-final by defeating the English pair. Hare and Wilde, who are training as prospective Davis Cup players. The Germans were definitely dominant, especially overhead. The win of Hughes and Tuckey (England) over the Japanese pair, Nakano and Yamagishi. was notable for clever net volleys and the vigorous cervices of the Englishmen. Hughes and Tuckey will meet Menzel and Hecht (Czechoslovakia) in the semi-finals, in which von Cramm and Henkel will play Budge and Mako. The matches will be more interesting as all will represent the teams engaged in the Davis Cup. Results were: —
