PLUNKET SOCIETY
LINWOOD-AVONSIDE The newly-formed Linwood-Avon-side sub-branch of the Plunket Society held its first monthly meeting with Mrs J. E. K. Brown presiding over a full attendance of 14 members. Nurse Gibbs’ reports for the months of April and May were read, and Mrs H. R. Smith gave a short talk on the work of the society. Subscriptions were received from Mrs F. Brettell, and Mrs T. Harland, and the sum of £1 10s 7d was received from box donations. BIRTHDAY PARTY An enjoyable party was given by Mr I. Harding on the occasion of his seventy-seventh birthday anniversary. The party was held at his home at Templeton, where he was born. Games, competitions, and dancing were enjoyed, and music was played by Miss P. Ealam, Mr A. Monteith, Mr 1. Harding, and Mrs A. Gallagher. Winners of competitions were Mrs J. Monteith, Mr A. Montieth, and Mrs A. Gallagher. Those present included Mr and Mrs I. Harding, Mr and Mrs A. Monteith, Mr and Mrs A. Gallagher, Mr and Mrs J. Monteith, Mr and Mrs H. Cooper, Mr and Mrs W. Ealam, Mesdames Bissett, Collings, Misses A. Bissett, P. Ealam, B. Collings, Messrs M. Ealam, J. Ealam (Timaru), R. Bissett, W. Bissett, N. Bissett, H. Harding, O. Harding, and Master G. Curtis. MOTHERS’ UNION SHEFFIELD BRANCH The Sheffield branch of the Mothers’ Union held its annual meeting at the home of Mrs Q. A. Wright. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Palmer for her work for the branch. Mrs Brown was • elected president, Mrs Q. A. Wright and Mrs Gemmell vice-presidents, Mrs Palmer secretary, and Mrs Lawrence, treasurer. The branch has had a useful year helping in church work, sending jam to St. Saviour’s Ornhanage, and clothing a child at St. Saviour’s.
