CITY GARBAGE DUMPS
TO THE EDITOR OT THE PRESS. Sir—l should like to draw the attention of the president of the Spreydon Burgesses’ Association to St. . A^ an jV This large area was one huge dump oi refuse of every description and is now one of the best assets Christchurch has got I lived in the early days right alongside of the then dump, raised a family of six children without the slightest detriment to any one of them; in fact, the youngsters used to take a short cut through the dump to get to St. Albans School. I remember pointing out what I thought a danger the non-covering up of the refuse—to a doctor attending the birth of one of my children, and was astonished when he told rne that germs or bacteria were non-efiec-tive—died, I think was the word he used—when blown 30 feet away.—Yours, etc.. A.E.L. Ps —Mr G. B. Chick, one-time Mayor of this city, was a neighbour of mine, and was, I think, responsible for the filling of the St. Albans dump. Juno 4, 1037.
