CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING
KENNETT CUP RACE TO-DAY THREE DUNEDIN TEAMS ENTERED Three Dunedin teams will be among the competitors for the Kennett Cup at Riccarton racecourse to-day. Teams from six of the local cross-country clubs have been entered, making a field of approximately 70 runners, who will race over the three and a half mile steeplechase course, comprising two laps of the racecourse. The Civil Service Club (Dunedin) has held the trophy since the inception of the race in 1930. and is considered likely to retain it this year. Its team includes several runners new to this race, but it includes one of Otagos best-known cross-country men, A. R. Geddes. a member of the New Zealand team which visited Australia in 1935. Civil Service will be strongly challenged by another Dunedin team, Caversham, representing one of the principal Otago clubs. Caversham has entered A and B teams. Geddes should be the principal contender for the Olliver Cup, which is given for the winner of the race. He is the holder of the trophy, and should be capable of defending it successfully if he is in form. TTie race will start at 3 p.m.
