NAVAL ARMAMENT PROGRAMMES
——▼ POLICY IN BATTLESHIP CONSTRUCTION NO EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION WITH JAPAN (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRBLESB.) RUGBY, June 2. As the Washington and London (1930) naval treaties are no longer in force, and as Japan is not a party to the London Naval Treaty of 1936, no exchange of naval information will take place between Japan and Britain, according to a statement by the First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr A. Duff Cooper) in the House of Commons. His Majesty's Government had not, therefore, been informed "of the Japanese intentions with regard to battleship construction. Since Japan's refusal at the end of March to accept the 14-inch gun limitation, no further representations on the subject had been made to the Japanese Government.
