CAR OWNER FINED (P8F.89 ASSOCIATION TBI.SGBAitJ AUCKLAND. June 2. In the first prosecution brought in Auckland for failure to have a certificate of fitness for a motor vehicle, Richard Thomas Carroll was fined £1 for having no certificate, 10s for driving without a licence, and £2 for giving a false name and address. The police said that the defendant, when questioned about 10 p.m. on Anril 24, gave his name as Robinson. When seen later the same night he was found to have a driver’s licence for 1933-34 in the name of Carroll. Asked by the Magistrate why he did not have a certificate for the car, the defendant said it was an old car which he bought for £4. and he did not mauire whether there was a certificate for it. "How much have I got to pay?” asked the defendant when fined. “You have to pay altogether £5, which is more than the price of the car,” replied the Magistrate.
