WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION

CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH Mrs J. D. Hall presided at the annual meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs Colin Mclntosh, provincial president, occupied the chair for the election of officers, the result being as follows:—President, Mrs J. Dryden Hall; vice-presidents, Mesdames A. Harper, A. E. G. Lyttle, Roper, and Hitchcock; secretary and treasurer, Mrs A. D. McConnel: committee, Mesdames Box, Duff, Atkinson, and Miss Williams; advisory members, Mrs J. D. Hall and Mrs McConnel; delegates to provincial executive, Mesdames Hall, Lyttle, and McConnel; auditor, Mr A. E. G. Lyttle. The resignation of Mrs W. P. Hitchcock as secretary was received with much regret, and a vote of thanks was passed to her for her work in the past, and also to Mr Lyttle for auditing the boohs. Mrs Hall read a report of the year s work, and the balance-sheet was considered satisfactory, Mrs Taylor gave an interesting talk on gardening and growing suitable plants fdr home decoration. She also gave a demonstration of making floral sprays and posies. Mrs A. E. G. Lyttle won the prize for the best bloom in the year’s competitions, and Mrs W. P. Hitchcock was second. Mesdames Harper and Lyttle were hostesses at the tea hour. TENNIS CLUB’S DANCE Many guests spent a pleasant time at the Memorial Hall, New Brighton, on Saturday evening, when the last of a series of dances was held by the North Beech Tennis Club. The organising committee comprised Mrs W. Peppier, Misses M, Smith, D. Good, M. Cramp, Messrs. W. Peppier, L. Meier; R. Lovet, D. Cormack, and R. Cattermole. , • _ Music was played by Mr Percy Butler and his orchestra, and Mr L. R. Moore was-master of ceremonies. Amongst thosejpreaent were Mesdames J. C. Ashworth, C. Tilleyman, P. Grimes, L. Waring, Dot Moses, Joan Miller, Amy Peek, Rena Algie, Joyce Algle. BRIDGE AND <<soo” PARTY A successful bridge and “800” party was held in the Phillipstown w»ndergarten, the organisers. Misses Margery Suckling and Joy Bartram, being assisted by other members of the Kindergarten staff. _ ~ . . The proceeds will enable Christchurch representatives to attend the kindergarten teachers’ refresher course In Dunedin next August. Several well wishers and teachers also held bridge parties privately and others gave donations, these efforts to augment the fund being much appreciated, . . Mr T. Kennedy acted as master of ceremonies. The prizes for bridge and 500 wore won by Miss I. Butterick and Mr S. Wilkie (Dunedin), CARD PARTY A card party was held in the Halswell Hall, under the auspices of the hall committee. Prizes were won by Messrs R. O’Neill and R. J. Walker, Mesdames H. Hayes and A. Sparkes. The Saturday night card party, arranged by the same committee, was well attended. The successful players were Mesdames A. McLaughlan and J. Savage, Messrs J. Rogers and H, Sparkes.
