MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SATURDAY (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) REMANDED William Jack Waddell was remanded until May 6 on a charge of obtaining on April 22 from Wright, Stephenson and Company four motor tyres valued at £ls 12s, by falsely representing that he was J. Waddell, of Omarama Station. Bail of £IOO was allowed, with one surety of £IOO and a condition that the accused reports daily to the police. THEFT OF WIRELESS SET Robert Joseph Coady, a motor mechanic, aged 22 (Mr K. J. McMenamin), pleaded guilty to a charge ol stealing on April 5 a wireless set valued at £l2 10s, the property of L. B. Scott, Ltd. Detective F. Stewart, who prosecuted, said that Coady obtained the wireless set on the hire-purchase system and took it home to try it out. Later he placed it with a pawnbroker and obtained £2 for it. Mr McMenamin said that the accused bought the set legitimately and committed the offence some time after because he wanted money to go to Petone for a job offered him. He had obtained the job. Restitution could be made to the pawnbroker. Coady was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within six months, with a condition that he repays £2 to the pawnbroker. Ah application for suppression of the accused’s name was refused.
