ANNUAL SOCIAL HELD

To mark the fifteeriW anniversary of the Christchurch Club, a club formed to organise competitions and games for deaf persoi. .-, a social was held recently at which there was a large attendance. A one-act play entitled "My Grandparents," was given, followed, by supper. Mrs Snelling, the oldest former pupil of the School for the Deaf, Sumner, cut the birthday cake. A. display of art needlework, beaten pewter, and marquetry was given at the social. The evening concluded with the recitation of the National Anthem. The following won trophies for competitions held during the year:— Table Tennis—Women's cup (three sets), Mrs Pruden; challenge shield (three tests), W. Jury; mixed doubles, C. Cairns and C. Steer; yankee tournament, Mrs Pruden. Highest points: A grade, C. Cairns; B grade, V. Whittaker; C grade, Miss Norma Marks. Club's cup: W. Jury. Badminton—Senior, C. Steer and W. Jury; junior. Miss Norma Marks and R. Whiting; most graceful men players, L. Charman and Flood; most graceful women player, Mrs D'Ath. Flag 500—Senior, Messrs Pruden, Flood and D'Ath;. junior, Misses Jean Robertson and Joyce Sparks. Euchre—Mr Williams. Essay Competition—Composition on Taylor's Mistake: Men, C. Cairns; women (cordial greeting), Mrs L. Charman. Prize Bulb—Mrs Flood. Best Arrangement of Flower Vases— Mrs D'Ath. Debate ("Should Youth Stay at Home")— Mrs Pruden and Miss C. Truman.
