OLD RESIDENCE DAMAGED BY FIRE
[THE PRESS Special Service.] BLENHEIM, April 21. . Believed to be Blenheim's first hospital, and certainly one of the oldest dwellings in the district, a sevenroomed wooden house in Maxwell road, owned - and occupied by Mr William Ramsay, was extensively damaged by fire shortly before midday to-day. Nearly 80 years of age, timber in the main portion of. the building was dry as tinder, and the flames soon had a strong hold from end to end. Two leads of hose were used and the fire brigade, by attacking the-fire from the front and the back, soon had the flames under control after considerable damage" had been done to the "back portion of the house. " The cause of the outbreak is unknown, as when Mr Ramsay left the house about a ciuarter of an hour before, everything was in order and there ■was no fire burning in the stove. Mr i Ramsay had a number of valuable belongings in the building, and as there \was no Insurance on either the bouse or its contents he will be a heavy loser. In the early days the house was used as a nursing home.
