DAY OF FELLOWSHIP AT RANGIORA 260 MOTHERS' UNION MEMBERS ATTEND Two hundred and sixty Anglican Mothers' Union members, representing 30 branches throughout Canterbury, met at Rangiora yesterday when the St John's branch held its biennial day ol fellowship. A service was held in the morning and a meeting in the afternoon after the visitors had been entertained to lunch in the Parish Hall. The Communion service was conducted by Archdeacon A. C. Purchas (Rangiora), assisted by the Revs. F. O. B. Lane (Sefton), H. M. Cocks (Waikari), and T. M. Ciirnow (Kaiapoi), and 233 women were present The afternoon meeting was addressed by Mr Cocks, whose subject was "Fellowship." He referred to various women's organisations, and showed how the mothers' union provided members with fellowship with each other, and also the greater fellowship with Christ. The movement was worldwide, and embraced peoples of many countries in its bonds of fellowship. Personal The Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. Adam Hamilton) will visit Rangiora to-day and address supporters of the National Party this evening. The Rev. H. A. Jones, who is in charge of the New Zealand Baptist mission station at Brahwanbaria, E?st Bengal. India, gave a lecture, illustrated by lantern slides, in the Rangiora Baptist Church, last evening. Mr Jones is in New Zealand on furlough. Methodist Missionary Un?on A welcome was extended to Mrs H. Rvan and Miss M. Graham at a meetins of the Rangiora branch of the Methodist Women's Missionary Union vpsterday .afternoon. Miss Graham has returned from missionary work in the islands. Bouquets were presented to both euests of honour. The nresideht (Mrs W. T. Dennis) presided. Items v/ere given as follows:—Vocal soles. Mrs J. Peryman and Miss D. Ayers: vocal duet. Miss Ayers and Miss G. MrKenzie (Christchurch); pianoforte duet, Mrs R. H. Ellis and Miss Ayers. Road-Making Machinery Arrives For use in the sealing of roads in the Rangiora County, a large dragline excavator arrived by rail yesterday, and is being assembled at the railway yards. The excavator, which <s the property of a Christchurch contractor, will be put into use almost immediately. Plunket Society Tentative arrangements for the annual meeting were made at a meeting of the Rangiora branch of the Plunket Society on Tuesday afternoon. The president (Mrs L. M. King) presided. The resignation of Mrs G. Wade from the committee was accepted with regret. Two months' leave of absence was granted to Mrs A. Buckingham. The nurse reported that she had visited 32 homes in Rangiora during the month, and 438 visits had been paid to her office in the town. At out-stations, she had been to 70 homes and 260 calls had been made at offices. Her motor-car had travelled 654 miles. POSTMASTER AT WAIAU HONOURED A social was held in the Public Hall, Waiau, recently to say good-bye to Mr L. Whitham and family. Mr Whitham, who has been postmaster for the last seven years, has gone to Leeston on promotion. Mr P, Burbury, for, the people of the district, spoke of Mr Whitham's high qualities and the efficient manner in which he carried out his duties, and handed him a cheque. Mr J. Ferguson, for the footballers, presented Mr and Mrs Whitham with a case of cutlery, and Mr J. K.
