FIRE IN STATE FOREST

YOUNG MAN CONVICTED (press association telegram.) , WELLINGTON, April 20. Cyril Christian. Hayes, aged 21, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to-day to lighting a fire without authority in the Tanglmoana State forest on March 21, whereby 12 pines, valued at £lB, were burnt. It was stated in evidence that he took some meat from a neighbour’s safe and went into the forest and lit the fire to cook it. The police added that he was awaiting sentence on charges of breaking and entering and the conversion of a car. He was convicted and ordered to come up if called upon within six months. , _ ~ ■
