RENEWED ANXIETY OVER FRANC
EFFECT OF PARLIAMENTARY ATTACKS ON M. BLUM
(Received March 3, 5.5 p.m.)
PARIS, March 2.
A"+er the attacks in Parliament on the Prime Minister (M. Leon Blum), French bonds are depressed and anxiety over the franc has been renewed. Meanwhile gold continues to flow from France. [M. Blum's refusal to form a National Government led to an energetic attack on the Government in the Chamber of Deputies last week, but the Chamber passed a vote 'of confidence in the Prime Minister by 361 votes to 209. M. Pierre Flandih, a former Prime Minister, said that the Government's policy would inevitably cause inflation, and to M. Blum he said: "Although the City of London has a soft spot for you, two British banks have refused to subscribe to the last loan for France." M. Blum admitted that rentes might rise and capital return if he formed a National Government, but his convictions prevented him from doing so.]
