RANGIORA RETURNED SOLDIERS

PRESENTATION TO FORMER SECRETARY

In appreciation of his services as secretary of the Rangiora Returned Soldiers' Association for some years, Mr F. Hunt, who is now living in Christchurch, was entertained by the executive of the association on Saturday evening. The president (Mr J. W. Macleod) presented Mr Hunt with a wallet of notes, and extended best wishes for his future happiness.

Personal The Rev. T. Coatsworth will leave Rangiora to-day to attend the annual conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, which will open in Auckland on Thursday. Mr C. S. Ayers, who is the lay representative of the Rangiora circuit, will leave to-morrow. He will be accompanied by Mrs Ayers. Mr and Mrs H. T. Oates, of Rangiora, are spending a holiday at Lyttelton and the bays. Nurse K. Urquhart, who has been relieving at the Rangiora Maternity Hospital for three months, will leave to-day to take up a position at the Oxford Hospital. Miss I. Hiron, home science instructress at the Rangiora district technical classes, will leave on Thursday on a trip to China and Japan. She will be away for some months.

PINE TREES FELLED ON CHEVIOT ESTATE

NEW AREA TO BE PLANTED

Pine trees on the Cheviot Hills estate are disappearing rapidly. Hundreds of magnificent trees are now being felled, and will later be taken to Christchurch by a timber merchant. After the felling is completed, new trees will be planted. Personal Miss K. Brewins, sole teacher at Gore Bay School for the last four years and a half, has accepted a position at the North Linwood School, and will take up her duties at the start of the new school term.

Mr arid Mrs F. H. Gurnsey have arrived in the district. Mr Gurnsey has been appointed headmaster at the Cheviot School.

Mr W. H. Carroll, who has been home missioner at Cheviot for the last two years, has been appointed to Hinds. He will be succeeded by Mr R. Lishman, of Dunback, Oamaru. Mr Lishman will take up his duties on the first Sunday in March. Mr M. Robinson, Knox College, Dunedin, who has 'tvsen relieving Mr Carroll, will leave fA'is evening for Wellington.

Misses Noreen Cottrell, Marion Hyde, and Rose McAdam are spending a holiday at Motunau beach. Mr W. J. Brooke, Audit Department, is -making his annual visit to the Cheviot county.

Six members of the Amberley Croquet Club played a match with six of the Woodend Club on the Woodend courts. Amberley won. two"-sets and the third was drawn.

Mr and Mrs R. Wylie, Raven street, Kaiapoi, are spending a holiday in Picton.
