EMPIRE SHOOTINGTROPHY
ST. BEDE'S COLLEGE FIRST FOR NEW ZEALAND The highest score, in New Zealand in the annual competition for the Lord Milner trophy, conducted by the National Rifle Association of Great Britain, was obtained by St. Bede's College, Christchurch, it has been announced by the Defence Department, which conducts the competition in New Zealand. The average score of the college cadet unit was 90.426 and this'has now been sent forward to headquarters in England, with a recommendation that the trQphy be awarded to the college.
The Lord Milner Trophy is for competition between any school or college rifle unit or any cadet or boy scouts company in the Empire. The conditions for the trophy are that only Government pattern .22 short magazine LeeEnfield (service) rifles with the regulation open sights may be used and the trophy is awarded to the unit which gains the highest figure. Whether St. Bede's College has won the trophy for 1936 will not be known until the results from other parts of the Empire have been received in London.
