TWO MEN CONVICTED

After a retirement of one hour th« jury returned a verdict of guilty on all counts in the Supreme Court case in which Clement Robert Lawson and ,\ George Frederick Murphy were charged with breaking and entering by / night the Farmers' Trading Company's - } shop at Pokeno with intent to commit .:' a crime and with having house-break* j| ing instruments in their possession. -3 Murphy was also charged -with hav«' I ing gelignite in his possession. - !| The defence was that the accused .j had called at the store for the legrti- .J mate purpose of securing petroL The ,j accused's counsel, Mr Sullivan, said. that Lawson was wearing rubber gloves, jj for driving and Murphy had put on a "| pair as a protection against acid when I battery trouble was experienced. <$ They were remanded for sentence. 4
