West, J*&PO •- CASE REHEARD An application by the police for a rehearing of a case, so that certain state- j ments made at the earlier hearing could be answered, was granted by tha • Children's Court at its sitting" on Saturday morning. "[ The case was-one in which a boy. * charged with cruelly torturing 13 cows t by .pouring a solution of caustic soda £ on their bodies, had been admonished « and discharged. ' The Owner of the I bows, who had been the boy's em- S ployer, had not been able to be pres- 3 ent at the first hearing and he ap- * peared on Saturday to answer certain 6 statements -which." had been made. The owner of the cows claimed that ~& he had lost more than £3O through ■] the boy's action, this amount being ' 1 made up by loss of milk and deprecia- j tibn in the value, pf the cows. The soda ] was poured over, the cows on Christ- ? mas Day and some of them were only ; how recovering. .
After considerable deliberation, the court ordered the boy to pay the owner of the cows £ls at the rate of Ss a - week and extended a period of probation he is undergoing for another offence from 14 to 20 months. INDECENT ASSAULT j
A boy aged 15, for wbnm Mr J. T. Watts appeared, admitted indecently H assaulting a female child, and -was ~ placed under the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for two years. \ DAMAGE TQ LIGHTS ] Two boys," who admitted damaging electric light bulbs with an air rifle, -J were ordered to make good the dam- -i age, amounting to 18s. between them. :• A similar -charge against a third boy was dismissed. The airgun was confiscated.
