Federal New Year honours include the following:— K.B.—Henry John Sheehan, of Canberra, Secretary of the Treasury; Arthur Streeton, landscape artist; Alexander Anderson Stewart, of Melbourne, consulting engineer and company director. C.B.—Major-General John Dudley Lavarack, Chief of General Staff, Australian Military Forces. C.M.G. —Hubert Frazer East, of Brisbane, for many years State resident of the Returned Soldiers' and Sailors' League. C.B.E. —Surgeon-Captain William James Carr, Director of Medical Services in the Australian Navy; Donald MacKay, of Sydney, explorer. p.C.—Robert Gordon Menzies, Commonwealth Attorney-General. D.B.E.—Mrs Mary Gilmore, writer and poetess. New South Wales honours include:— C.M.G.—William Rupert McCourt, Clerk of the Legislative Assembly.
