COLLISION AT RANGIORA | TWO MOTOR-CARS DAMAGED Fairly extensive damage was done to two motor-cars which collided at the intersection of West belt and Ox- | ford road. Rangiora. on Saturday afternoon, but the occupants escaped serious injury. Thrown on its side against a pole by the force of the impact, a sedan car driven by Clarence Rands, of Springbank, suffered damage to the bodywork and roof, and a smaller car driven by John Currie. of Coronation street, Southbrook, was damaged at the front. . Mr Rands, the only occupant of his car, suffered bruises and shock, and the driver and two passengers in the other vehicle were not injured. Visiting Bowlers Entertained During a motor drive yesterday afternoon arranged W the Christchurch Bowling Centre, members of the party of bowlers from Queensland, which is visiting Christchurch, made a brief call at Rangiora and were entertained to afternoon tea by the Rangiora Bowling Club. A welcome to Rangiora was extended by the president of the club (Mr F. T. Ager) and the Mayor (Mr C. W. Tyler), and the president and secretary of the Christchurch centre also spoke. Prestney 47 (2). and F. Bryden 46 (1). FAREWELL GATHERING AT CHEVIOT WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MEMBERS HONOURED A pleasant afternoon was spent at the home of Mrs F. Leaman, when members of the Parnassus Women's Institute gathered to sav farewell to Mrs D. Sheffield and Miss F. Barber, who are leaving the district. Mrs Sheffield has been secretary to the institute for the last two years. Both members were presented with bouquets by Mrs T. Wilkinson, president of the Parnassus branch, who spoke in appreciation of the work done by Mrs Sheffield. Mrs Sheffield also received handkerchiefs as a parting gift from each member of the institute. Musical items were given by Mrs D. Bush and Miss M. Leaman. The afternoon was spent in games and competitions and afternoon tea was serve J by institute members. The January meeting of the institute took the form of a picnic to the Leader river. Games and swimming were held. Afternoon tea was served. Personal Misses May Sloss, Nan Hamilton, and Dallas Wilkinson have left on a motor tour to the Franz Josef glacier. Mr and Mrs Eric Wilkinson have returned to their home at Hamilton after spending a holiday with their parents at Cheviot. Mr Guy Struthers and Mr Eric Brown have left on a motor tour of Nelson. Blenheim, and the West Coast. Miss Eunice Penhalluriack, who has been spending the holidays with her mother, has returned to Christchurch.
