Strong exception was taken last evening by the chairman of the Otago Hospital Board (Mr J. W Dove) to a statement made by Sir Alan Newton, of Melbourne, who. when delivering a to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Auckland last week said that appointments to the professional staffs of the hospitals m New Zealand were made solely by lay boards which were unable to judge the qualifications of thej applicants “With appointments to the pi oie -dnnol staff of the Dunedin Hospital. If th position elsewhere is as represented by Sir Alan Newton, then this board dissociates itself entirely from it.
