NIGHT SHIFT MAY BE WORKED

FLOOD LIGHTING BEING CONSIDERED

POWER LINES FOR RANGITATA DIVERSION SCHEME

There is a possibility that a night shift, in addition to the usual day shift, will be worked by Public Works employees on the Rangitata diversion scheme, approval for which was received by the department engineer at Temuka this week. In a statement to a reporter yesterday Mr T. G. Beck, resident department engineer, said that two shifts would probably be run, inevitably involving some degree of night work, and for this shift the installation of floodlighting was being considered. The extra shift will enable the heavy machinery to-be-kept in more continuous operation. The question of providing power for the Rangitata construction was discussed by MrBeck with Mr H. G. Kemp, engineer to the Ashburton Power Board, yesterday morning. According to statements made by Mr Kemp power lines to the Rangitata camp site will be extended from existing lines in the immediate future. The installation of other necessary power apparatus had been discussed with Mr Beck, but definite plans had not been made.
