SAFETY IN FLYING
CAMPAIGN BEGUN BY U.S. DEPARTMENT (Received January 14, 9.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, January 13. The Department of Commerce has launched a movement to increase safety provisions, as a result of 28 deaths through aeroplane crashes within a month, and 58 during a year. ' EXPLORER'S DEATH FROM INJURIES FOUR SURVIVORS OF U.S. AIR CRASH SEVERELY HURT (Received January 14, 5.5 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, January 13. Mr Martin Johnson, the wellknown explorer, who was a passenger in the transport aeroplane which crashed in mountainous country near Burbank, died of injuries. His wife is expected to live. She is suffering from a fractured knee joint, concussion, and numerous abrasions. She is semi-conscious. Three other of the 11 survivors are in a serious condition.
