KAIAPOI ISLAND SCHOOL
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PKES3. Sir,—l have read in the newspapers that the Spencerville School is closed, and that a bus will run through Spencerville, Brooklands, Stewart's Gully, and Kainga, picking up the children and conveying them to Belfast. This is a capital idea, but why does not the department close Kaiapoi Island School also. On the present arrangement it means that the attendance at our school will drop down to a very small average, and it will become a Grade O school. As a resident of this district and having the interest of the locality at heart, I strongly advocate consolidation. It will come; why not now? The school is more than 60 years old, entirely out of date, and must be extremely unhealthy. I do sincerely hope that those Jew who have opposed
consolidation will again seriously consider the issue and agree to the proposal. We have the definite assurance that the old building will be left lor social purposes, but I do think it is about time we bestirred ourselves and built a hall for this district. Should a meeting be called for that purpose I am prepared to assist in every way. COUTTS ISLAND RESIDENT. Coutts Island, January 12, 1937.
