Company by Vickers-Arm-strong at Barrow will be named the Stratheden. " The further announcement is now made that the second liner is to be named the Strathallan. The Strath or valley of the Allan may be little known outside Scotland, but the name of the stream has been immortalised in the old ballad, "On the Banks of Allan Water." Actual building has not yet begun on the third new liner, which has been ordered from Alexander Stephen and Sons, Ltd., of Glasgow, so that no thought has so far been given to the selection of a name for her. '■• , NEW MOTOR-SHIP AT LYTTELTON Bringing cargo from Edithburg, Adelaide, and Melbourne, the Union Steam Ship Company's new motor cargo-ship, Kauri, arrived shortly after midday yesterday on her first visit to Lyttelton. She also brought, as deck cargo, a large number of motor-cars from Wellington. The Kauri was built by Alexander Stephens and Sons, Linthouse, and has a gross tonnage of 2660, a deadweight carrying capacity of 3000 tons on a draught of 18 feet, and a service speed of 11 knots. On her trials she averaged 12J knots. The vessel was specially designed for the intercolonial timber and general cargo trade. MARAMA ARRIVES Bringing 22 passengers for Lyttelton and a large number of through passengers, the intercolonial steamer Marama arrived at Lyttelton early yesterday morning from Melbourne, via Milford Sound, Bluff and Dunedin. „ On the arrival of the vessel, -an officer of the Government Tourist Department interviewed the through passengers, giving them particulars of sight-seeing trips which could be made in and around Christchurch during the day, and most of them availed themselves of the opportunity of spending ashore what was stated to be the first fine day since the vessel left Melbourne. The Railway Department looked after the needs of. the visitors by opening a booking office aboard the ship and attaching special carriages to the 9.23 a.m. train from Lyttelton. When the Marama was at Dunedin on Wednesday, the 30 children who are among the passengers were not permitted to land because of the restrictions imposed by the Health Department. Instead they were taken for a sail around the harbour in the ship's lifeboats. The Marama sailed -last night for Wellington, and is to leave that port to-mor-row for Bluff, Hobart, and Melbourne.
