WAIKUKU BEACH IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION'S FINANCIAL POSITION "From dances alone, we have made more than £4O this summer," said the president of the Waikuku Beach Improvement Association (Mr C. L. Address by Mr Morgan Williams An address on the work of the Labour Government and policy for the future was given to a public meeting in Rangiora by Mr C. Morgan Williams, member of Parliament for Kaiapoi, last evening. Mr N. Goldsbury presided. BOY'S DEATH AT TORMORE ACCIDENT IN RAILWAY YARDS An inquest into the death of Gerald Trowbridge, who was killed at Tormore railway yards on Tuesday, was held before Mr G. Struthers, coroner, at Cheviot yesterday. The child was identified by his father, Mr S. D. Trowbridge, surfaceman, Tormore. J W. Coffey, shepherd at Sir Charles Clifford's station, Stonyhurst, said that he had previously warned the child to keep away from the trucks while sheep were being loaded. G. Holmwood, lorry-driver, also said that on previous occasions he had warned the boy to keep away from the trucks, but he could in no way account for the accident. „, . , ._,,•.* Dr Marshall, of Cheviot, said that he examined the boy after the accident and found- that he had a fracture of the vertebrae and abdominal injuries consistent with being crushed with the wheels of a truck. A verdict of accidental death was returned, no blame being attachable to anyone. KOWAI COUNTY COUNCIL Mr R. Peach, presided at the last ordinary meeting of the Kowai County Council. Also present were: Crs. H May, J. B. Bowker. M. B. Forrester, D. McLean, J. Ashworth, and E. A. Payne. ' The Minister for Transport wrote setting out a list of recommendations for road safety, and seeking the cooperation of local bodies in maintaining a proper standard of safety on the roads. METHODIST CHURCH AT OXFORD The Rev. A. Liversedge presided over the quarterly meeting of the Oxford Methodist Church. The membership return showed a slight increase, and reports on the Sunday\ School and young people's societies were favourable.. The amount raised for the overseas mission was £26 9s sd. The financial statement showed a reduced debit. Messrs L. Watson and D. J. Hawke were reappointed circuit stewards, Miss W. Comyns home mission secretary, and Mrs C. W. Tritt orphanage secretary. ' Mr L. Watson was appointed representative to conference in Auckland, and Mrs C. C. Early substitute. It was decided to hold the harvest festival on March 14 and 15, and a committee was appointed to organise it. HORORATA PERSONAL NOTES . Miss Balmforth (Wellington) has been spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs H. Yeates, Hororata. Mr and Mrs Bowden, who have been staying with Mr and Mrs Yeates, have returned to Christchurch. CROQUET AT KAIKOURA The Kaikoura Croquet Club's final double button competition was won by Mrs E. J. Anstiss and Mrs J. A. Johnston. Lambs Being Sent Away The sheep farmers are busy drafting the lambs which have been sold some months ago for January delivery. Thousands are being taken away by motor-lorries to various buyers and to the Addirigton market. The stock is in excellent condition as there has been a plentiful supply of good-feed all the spring. The paddocks are not showing signs of drying up as they do sometimes at this time of the year. /••■
