GOOD PERFORMANCES AT TIMARU i A Eood performance was registered at the evening meeting conducted, at the Caledonian Grounds, Timaru, on Wednesday, by the South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club, when H. Cloake threw the 161b shot a distance of 38ft llin from scratch. Cloake, who is having his second' season m atnletics, Uves at Springbrook, St. Andrews He has already thrown the hammer 100 ft. He is an improving good performance at the same meeting was that of H. There were no events for school children, but there were good entries in the other events. N. H. Fisher, the Olympic boxer., made his debut in athletics, running in the men's mile and men's 120 yards. He gained fourthplacfe in.the mile event, and won the javelin men's mile. A. G. Donohue took the lead at the end of the third lap, and, running with A. N. Thomas and N. H. Fisher, had established a good lead at the end of the fourth. With half a lap to go, however? J.- G. Hay took the lead, and won effortlessly. L. Hay won the youths' one mile in a similar manner, passing R. Comfort, who had held the lead, at the end of the third lap.
