RECORD FOR SHORT SPEECHES

LUNCHEON ON THE ARAWA LONDON, January 11. A- praiseworthy record was made at a luncheon to celebrate the refitting of the Arawa, when two speeches occupied less than two minutes, the first lasting just over a minute and the other only 30 seconds. Mr Basil Sanderson, manager of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Com-r pany, mentioned that among the passengers on the Arawa's maiden voyage from New Zealand would be the New Zealand cricketers and the Government delegation to the Imperial Conference. The Arawa has been completely reconstructed in modern fashion, and the owners claim that she is the, most up-to-date tourist vessel in any service.
