most Violent since QUETTA DISASTER LONDON, January 7. An earthquake, the most violent since the Quetta disaster, has just been registered at London. The needle at the West Bromwich Observatory swung seven inches and is still oscillating. It is believed that the upheaval is centred in the West Indies or in Central Asia. An earthquake was recorded early vesterday morning at the Christchurch Observatory. The primary wave was at 1.8.22 a.m., New Zealand standard time, and the secondary wave at 1.18.22. The tremors were recorded over a period of two and a half hours, and the centre of the disturbance was believed to be about 8800 miles away, which would correspond roughly with the West Indies.
