■ — . ♦—— The Minister "for Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, is making a semi-private visit to Christchurch. He intends to spend most of his stay in the back-country on a shooting expedition. Mr Semple will return to Wellington on Tuesday. : ■■■■• The Hon. R. McCallum, M.L.C. arrived in Christchurch from Blenheim yesterday. Mr A, R. Thompson, Christchurch manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, will leave for the north this evening to join the Maunganui for Australia on Monday. He will return by the Maunganui on its cruise of the South Island, leaving the vessel at Lyttelton on January 24, During his absence Mr L. L. Derbidge will act as manager. Sir George Shirtcliffe arrived from the North Island yesterday morning by the steamer express. Mr H. S. E. Turner, manager of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, Ltd., arrived from the north by steamer express yesterday. The Rev. W. S., Southward, vicar of St. Chad’s, .Linwood, who has been on leave of absence in England,' has returned to New Zealand and will arrive in Christchurch this morning. He will resume his duties to-morrow.
