Mr A. M. Burns and Mr G. C. Burns ]eft by Thursday afternoon’s aeroolane for Palmerston North en route to Hawera, where they spent Christmas. Mr A. M. Burns will return to Wellington on Monday morning to join the Awatea on a holiday visit to Australia. Mr W. L. Idauger, senior-superintendent of police at Delhi, India, is spending a holiday in New Zealand and is at present staying at the New City Hotel. Mr Justice Page, president of the Arbitration Court, was a passenger by the steamer express on Thursday morning. Mr V. R. J. Hean, architect of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, arrived in Christchui’ch yesterday morning. Mr G. R. Ashbridge, secretary of the New Zealand Educational Institute, has been awarded a travelling scholarship in education by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, to enable him to study educational administration abroad. Mr Ashbridge has high secretarial and accountancy qualifications, and his eight years’ service with the New Zealand Educational Institute has given him a wide and detailed knowledge of educational organisation in New Zealand. It is Mr Ashbridge’s intention to attend classes at the University of London Institute of Education, and Columbia University, New York. The terms of the grant allow a wide range of studies, and Mr Ashbridge will also include in his investigation teacher organisations in France, Germany, Russia, and Canada. He expects to be away from New Zealand for about 12 months.
