Mr and Mrs A. W. Beaven (Redcliffs) are spending a fortnight with their grandchildren in the North Island.

Dr. and Mrs J. B. Condliffe (Geneva), who are visiting Christchurch, will leave to-night for the North Island. Mr and Mrs H. S. Barker (Fendalton) will leave on Wednesday for Wellington, where they will spend a few days before leaving for Auckland to join the Akaroa for a visit to Britain.

Miss Amy Spencer, who is at present visiting friends in Wellington, will leave soon for Santa Barbara, California. Miss Spencer, who has many friends in Christchurch, is a kinswoman of Sir Wilfrid Grenfell, the famous doctor and philanthropist in Labrador. Mr and Mrs Gordon Connal (Heathfield avenue, Fendalton) will leave to-day for a three weeks’ motor trip in the North Island. Miss Mona Cayley Robinson, formerly of Christchurch, who has been in England for some years, is returning to the Dominion, and is expected early in the New Year.

Mrs Wallace Rowe and Miss Rowe (Wellington) are visitors to Christchurch.

Mr and Mrs J. W. Fair (Timaru) have left for Rotorua to join Mr Fair's mother and brother, Mrs J. W. Fair, sen., and the Hon.' Mr Justice Fair, of Auckland, with whom they will spend the Christmas holidays. Mr and Mrs James Ritchie (Deans avenue) are visiting Mrs Ritchie’s parents, Mr and Mrs W. H. Orbell, The Levels, Timaru. Mrs J. R. Penlington (Wellington) is visiting her mother, Mrs J. McDougall, Kaiapoi. Miss C. McDougall (Kaiapoi) has returned from a holiday spent in Wellington. Misses Jean Hyde and Margaret McKenzie (Shirley) are spending a holiday at Mosgiel and Misses Esma Hyde and Gwen Hegarty (Shirley) have gone to Timaru for the holidays. Misses Daphne and Maisie Chapman and Margaret Lewis are spending the Christmas and New Year holidays at Moana and Greymouth.

Mr and Mrs Frank Petrc (Palmerston North) will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow to visit Mrs R. G. Petre, St. Albans. Mrs Geoffrey Kingscote and Miss D. Humphreys (Fendalton) will leave early next month for a motor tour of the North Island. Miss Carrie Moore, the original “Merry-Widow” in the play of that name in Australia, arrived in Wellington this week, after an absence of 20 years. She will visit her sister, Mrs R. Mcßeath (Eva Moore) at Levin. Lily Moore, another sister,is at present starring in “Please Teacher” in London. The British Drama League intends to hold a summer school at the Victoria University College, Wellington, from December 29 to January 11. A feature of the work to be done at the school will be the study of “Much Ado About Nothing.” Miss Elizabeth Blak£ will be leader and will work in collaboration with Mr Goodwin. A course will be held for judges of dramatic work.
