♦ WET WEATHER IN AUSTRALIA GIVEN AS ONE CAUSE (Received December 25, 10.30 p.m.) CHICAGO, December 24. A news commentator attributed one of the causes of the sharp advance in the price of wheat to the wet weather in Australia and the tendency to reduce the estimates of the year’s crop. Closing deals here show the top net rises in price to be from 3] to 53 cents a bushel. CROP INSURANCE (Received December 25, 11.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, December 23. Mr Roosevelt’s committee on crop insurance recommends that Congress pass authorising legislation during the coming session to permit wheat farmers to insure against yield losses through drought, flood, and pests, farmers to pay the insurance cost. The report urged the action to permit the legislation to apply to the 1937 crop.
