RELIEF APPROPRIATION IN AMERICA
* INCREASE WANTED FOR NEXT YEAR (Received December 25, 9.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, December 24. Mr H. L. Hopkins, Works Progress Administrator, has announced that the 760,000,000 dollars deficiency appropriation by the next Congress will be required for unemployment relief. “We have never had sufficient funds for it,” he said. He deprecated the reports that he had threatened to resign unless Mr Roosevelt allowed the estimate of 500,000,000 dollars to be increased by 50 per cent. A total Of 2,384,000 persons are receiving such relief in December.
