CLERICAL WORKERS' AWARDS
■ V WAGES AND HOURS OF WORK (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON. December 25. Awards have been made by the Arbitration Court for the first time as affecting clerical workers. There are two branches in the award for each section. One covers -enerc.l clerical workers, and th other manufacture!."' clerks. The awards are for the Wellington district. Hours on the ./hole have been fixed according to the house, but there are special cases, as for instance, the fixing of 40 hours for newspaper offices. The wage scales are the same in both awards, and range from 15s for the first half-yea - for boys undei 16. to £5 ss. Females under 17 years of age will receive 15s, theii wages rising to, £2 15s a week. Anyone more than 21 years of age must receive at least the basic wage. The scale provides for a later age of commencing work, i - follows: Males—First half-year, over 16 years of ase, £1; 17, 255; 18, 32s 6d; 19. £2; 20, 555. Females—Seventeen, 18s; 18, 21s; 19, 245; 20, 275; rising by half-yearly or yearly stages to an evntua £5 5s for males and £2 15s for females .
