♦ JOBS FOUND FOR 138. APPLICANTS , MEN ABSORBED IN SEASOS# WORK Thirty-six men were placed in TOk this week by the Christchurch plasment officer, the number bringing fig total of placements since the schae was inagurated to 1363. Of the potions filled this week, 16 vfcre psmanent and 20 temporary. At the present time many works have voluntarily gone off the regtfc to take up seasonal work in m stores and freezing works. Many m have also obtained part-time work* hay-making. Enquiries are being nafc now for workers to harvest the cornfoot crop on Banks Peninsula, bet I is not anticipated there will be aquiry for general harvesting work mtil after the New Year, and then osly in the early grain-producing district It is reported that several nun® couples have recently been placed is positions on farms, where the improved wages and conditions have undoubtedly influenced many men to give up relief work in the city m order to take up country work. It has bees arranged, for the convenience of em ; ployers and men seeking wort. tea. the Christchurch placement office wil observe only the statutory holidays and it will therefore be open net week for enquiries.
