INSURANCE AGAINST UNEMPLOYMENT
♦ ANNUAL SURPLUS IN BRITISH FUND OF £7,000,000 (BRITISH OFITCIAL WIRELESS.) RUGBY, December 24. The Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee is at present examining the state of the Insurance Fund and it is anticipated that a surplus of £7,000,000 a year will be found available for disposal. Employment is good and the income of the fund is consequently high, and its expenditure relatively low. Following the usual practice when a surplus is in view, the statutory committee has called for suggestions. The General Council of the Trades Union Congress has recommended the abolition of the waiting week before the benefit is paid, an increase of benefits and the extension of the benefit period beyond the present 26 weeks.
