THE QUEEN MARY IN DRY DOCK
FIRST SEASON COMPLETED (Received December 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, December 22. The arrival of the liner Queen Mary at Southampton, after a tempestuous voyage which caused her to be 13 hours late, completed her first season, in which she carried 41,000 passengers. She has made 14 round voyages. The liner is now in dry dock for examination of the underwater hull, after which she will be laid up for the winter. During this period extensive internal alterations will be carried out, notably the addition of stanchions where vibration is noticeable.
NAME OF NEW GIANT LINER QUEEN ELIZABETH SUGGESTED LONDON, December 22. The "Daily Telegraph" states that the Cunard-White Star Company has received numerous requests that the new liner, a sister ship to the Queen Mary, should be named Queen Elizabeth. It is urged that this would be a specially happy tribute to Scotland as the vessel is being built by the Queen's countrymen in a Scottish yard. There is every likelihood that the suggestion will be adopted.
