TRAMWAY FARES
TO THB EDITOB 09 THE I'RESS. Sir,—The electors at the recent Tramway Board election, by their rejection of the Citizens' candidates, indicated plainly that they were not concerned about a tramway rate. That being so. it is a little surprising that the new Labour board should so soon be discussing an endeavour to balance the board's budget by means of an increase in fares. The public has unmistakably pronounced in favour of a good and cheap service, and it is to be hoped that the new board will make this the cardinal feature of its programme, and leave the fares alone. There are several administrative economies to be considered first. —Yours, etc.. „ mTT CHRISTCHURCH NORTH. December 23, 1936.
