TRAFFIC INSPECTION

Correspondents who do not comply with our rules set out in the last column oi our Leader Page will excuse us irom noticing their letters. Constant Reader.—lt is necessary to specify the type of pension before an answer can be given.

TO THB IDITOB Of THE PBKSS. Sir,—The City Council's decision to appoint five more traffic inspectors should meet with the approval of all citizens. I am please 1 that the Labour councillors voted for progress, as usual. The majority of the council claim to represent business, well, let us hope that business practice will be adopted henceforth. In the past the by-laws committee has been vacillating and unstable in its decisions, something like a rabbit in the lupins, never knowing where you will find it next, and bolts at the first shadow of trouble. Boards of directors of business concerns allow managers to manage a business and judge by results. Why not apply business methods to the control of traffic by giving the man in charge of the department full control of it? I am surprised that the business people in the central area have displayed such exemplary patience for so long. This garaging of cars for hours on end, in the middle of the city, should be ended for all time. Purchasers of goods are entitled to a sporting chance of getting their cars within coo-ee of a shop, instead of having to leave their cars on the outskirts and make pack horses of themselves. —Yours, etc., HIRAM HUNTER. December 23, 1936.
