FINAL AWARDS MADE
ARBITRATION COURT ADJOURNS (I'BESS ASSOCIATION TELEGKAM.) WELLINGTON, December 23. The Arbitration Court adjourned today, and will probably resume at the Wellington sitting on February 3, but only adjourned cases will be taken. Awards released to-day included the cleaners and liftmen, the former being given a 40-hour week and the latter 44 hours. For warehousemen there were two awards, one for the general and the other for the soft-goods men. In both cases employees were classed into juniors, seniors, and town travellers. 'Hours were fixed at 42 on five and a half days. Both covered the principal districts of the Dominion. Gardeners' labourers (not market gardeners) were given a 48-hour week on five and a half days. Wages were fixed for males at £4 2s 6d and females £2 a week, with a casual rate of Is lid an hour. Tobacco workers in the Wellington district, including Hawke's Bay, were given a 44-hour week. Saturday work will not be permitted. The award doss not cover workers handling tobacco before it is packed and delivered into the bulk or bond store.
